Along the west coast of the block of land connected to the southern end of Bali sits Blue Point Beach. A gem that is yet to be discovered and discussed to its true value; the beach is accessible upon descending a precarious flight of stairs from a cliff which is located beyond the Uluwatu Temple.
There are many Bali luxury villas within close proximity and tourists flock in their groups if they have had the fortune to hear about this location. Some of the leaders in the hospitality industry in the area such as the Alila Villas Uluwatu would know to guide their patrons to this beach. The locals allude to this coast as Suluban, an apt name which loosely translates to ‘stopping to walk through a gap in the cliff’.
Given its location, this is an ideal spot to watch as the rays of the sun settle in for the day. The few tiny cafes atop the cliff offer the best views of both the beach and the sunset. It is usually towards late afternoon that the beach gets a bit crowded and during most other times the area remains secluded. A short while before dusk the empty seats at the cafes get occupied by locals and tourists alike who come to unwind watching the sunset. It is only once in a way that surfers can be seen in the glistening blue waters even though the area and the sea are conducive for same. However, one should be cautious as there are rocky surfaces underwater, but thanks to the translucent water these rough areas can be seen even from the summit of the cliff.
The rocky terrain that rises above the beach creates vistas as well and those who dare explore will discover the caves and caverns at the foot of the cliff tucked away beyond what is visible from far.
