Australia is world famous for it gorgeous beaches and its not that hard to see why; with some of the best stretches of coast line in the world, there’s a plethora of high quality, sunny beaches to choose from for a relaxing holiday. Located a short drive south of Sydney, Coledale Beach is one of those exquisite beaches; sandwiched between the azure waters of the pacific ocean and dense forest canopy of the Illawarra reserve; it provides the perfect getaway for those looking an escape from the big cities, without needing to travel too far.
Coledale Beach is part of the sleepy village of Coledale, accommodation wise, there’s several beach side holiday homes for rent, like the Serenity Holiday House, or alternatively, the beach offers a great location for campers thanks to the reserve. The beach provides stunning views over the rolling surf and is closed off by rock formations on either end that protect it during extreme weather as well as providing great fishing spots.
Coledale Beach is well known among surfers as a great surfing spot with perfect conditions that provide good left and right had breaks, however when compared to other surf beaches, it’s never as crowded. This makes it an ideal location to enjoy surfing, fishing, swimming or even just a leisurely stroll on the beach in peace. The area just off the beach is a regular haunt for dolphins and you might even be lucky enough to catch migrating humpback whales passing by.
The beach is patrolled between September to April, so visitors out of season are advised to be mindful when swimming out in the ocean on their own. In addition, dogs are not allowed to wander around off leash at Coledale Beach but , Sharkey’s Beach, located further south is a dog friendly beach.
