Sri Lanka has been known for its stunning tropical beach across the world. The Southern belt of the island is home to some of the best beaches on the island making it also the heaven for a wide range of accommodation to suit all travellers. Finding a boutique hotel in Sri Lanka is probably the easiest in this part of the country. It is also in the South that one could find some of the most relaxing guest houses, motels and hostels as well.
Unawatuna Beach is one of the buzzing beaches in the Southern stretch of the island decked with bars, clubs, beachfront restaurants and cafés. However, the interior of Unawatuna is blessed with lush greenery and is a completely different scene from its beach front. So if you want a bit of peace from all the activity and prefer to stay away from the beach then there are a few hotels such as the Jetwing Kurulubedda that are located a bit out of the way but still within the distance where you can get to the beach in no time.
During the day the Unawatuna beach is filled with sunbathers sipping on cocktails or enjoying a bite in one of the beach cafes or restaurants. There are also activities going on in the water, such as snorkelling and boat rides that take you closer to the corals. In the night however the coastal town livens up, it is one of the hippest party towns in the South.
The Rumasalla cliff is associated with Ramayana and is believed to have some of the most valuable herbs that could cure many ailments. There is also a Buddhist temple at the far end of the beach, which is not often filled with pilgrims maybe due to the fact that it is a recent temple that came up.
Galle is not too far from Unawatuna and a visit to the fort would be a great experience for anyone visiting the South of the island.
