Bali is famed for its rich rice fields, ancient temples and golden sandy beaches that are ideal for a relaxing and enriching holiday. Canggu is an area of pristine beaches and azure waters located in the north of Seminyak. If you’re looking for a Seminyak hotel in Bali to stay at, properties such as Anantara Seminyak Bali Resort have become quite popular with tourists who visit the island. Canngu beach was recently nominated as number 39th on the “World’s 100 Best Beaches” by CNN.
The beaches however are not golden like the others around the island. The sands of Canggu beach vary from dark grey to black sand, and the waves are said to be quite fun and challenging for surfers. Popular areas include Batu Balong, Mengening and Echo beaches which attract large number of surfers – beginners and pros, from around the world who wish to surf these waters. Canggu Beach is known to host the Indonesia Surfing Championship in 2004. Head over to Canggu beach if you’re a surfing enthusiast. Although the waves can be quite rough and towering, do keep in mind that there aren’t many swimmable spots in the area.
The sunsets at Canggu beach are believed to be quite phenomenal and breathtaking. Tourists and locals, who head to the beach to witness the sun gracefully descend over the horizon, usually snack on barbequed corn that is sold along the beach side.
As the town is still pretty much rural, tourists have the luxury of experiencing the local traditional way of life, by exploring the rice fields in the area and by visiting the Tanah Lot temple. The Tanah Lot temple which is located approximately 15 minutes from Canggu sits on a large offshore rock formation and makes for quite the popular tourist visit during sunsets.
