The Maldives are beautiful and a great spot for those looking to have a surreal snorkelling experience. With over 2500 reefs out of which 900 are house reefs, there is no shortage of snorkelling spots! The tropical waters teem with marine life, so enjoy all the snorkelling while you can! Here are a few species you should keep a lookout for!
Whale Sharks
Almost every Maldives beach resort usually offers the option of snorkelling, so don’t miss this opportunity. Whale sharks are found year-round in the Maldives and can weigh up to 20 tonnes. However, these gentle giants do not see you like food as they’re only interested in eating planktons – the smallest living organism in the waters.
Manta Rays
Rated as one of the best experiences, swimming with Manta rays is truly a unique experience due to their inquisitive nature. With a width of up to 4.5 metres, these marine animals are quite huge and safe – their tails do not have a sting! Stay on the lookout for manta rays when you snorkel at The Residence Maldives.
Turtles
Despite being a threatened species, sea turtles are easily spotted in the Maldives. The turtles are usually friendly and inquisitive, however, it’s best to stay out of their way when they come over water for a breath.
Sharks
Baby reef sharks spend their young days in shallow waters, so you’re sure to spot a few! As these animals grow bigger, they move to the deeper waters but don’t worry – they’re scared of humans!
