Maldives is blessed with serene natural beauty. With its sandy white beaches stretching along 644 kilometres and exotic surroundings on its atolls and islands, bordered by turquoise blue waters it really is paradise on earth. However as if this is not sufficient the residents of Male decided to construct an artificial beach bordering the city. Perhaps they really wanted their own as the capital of Male doesn’t have one so to speak.
This 10 million dollar project put a stop to the phrase ‘Lets go out of Male and have some fun’. Maybe this is what the residents of Male needed, their own beach, which has now become the talk of the travellers. It is hard to identify that it is an artificial beach unless you are told so. Keeping true to the Maldivian promise it is a beautiful sight by dusk, when the sun sets in the horizon.
Today this is a favourite spot among the locals. You would see hundreds of locals gather here in the mornings and afternoons during summer, swimming and playing in the sand. Some come here for picnics here and sit in peace while the children play to their hearts content while others lie around with a good book in a shady spot. Many national events have been hosted here after its construction including concerts, carnivals and parades. Male also boasts of several other attractions such as the national museum, Grand Friday Mosque and the Sultan Park.
Made up of 1192 tiny coral islands and 26 atolls Maldives is the ultimate island getaway. Located in the Indian Ocean it sits in the form of a garland below India and Sri Lanka on a map. With its crystal clear waters and beautiful surroundings travellers describe it as a heaven on earth experience. Accommodation in Maldives is by no means hard to find.
