There is no better way to start your morning than by hopping on a boat to the deep blue ocean. Whale watching is ‘the’ top activity among all other water adventures.
How early should you start?
Whale watching is one of the most popular things to do in Mirissa. You will have to leave your cosy rooms at the Sri Sharavi Beach Villas & Spa at least by about 6 am. Most boats that leave the Mirissa harbour to watch whales leave at least by 7 am, if not earlier.
When should you go?
Most whale watching operators recommend that you book a tour between November and April. This is the time when the waves off the Mirissa coast are the calmest. This means that your chances of seeing whales would be much better.
What can you expect to see?
Blue whales, sperm whales, and sometimes even humpback whales. However, you have to keep in mind that nature can be quite unpredictable. So you may see all of them or none of them depending on the day, time, and your luck.
How much should you pay?
This is really dependant on the service you choose. Make sure you call a few operators in the area and choose a package and price that is suitable for you.
