British Sergeant
One of the best diving spots in the region is around the British Sergent ship sunk during a Japanese offensive on April 9th, 1942. The aircraft HMS Hermes is also visible on the dive site. You can spot schools of big-eye snappers, trevally, batfish, groupers, mangrove snappers, clownfish, and sea anemones in these waters.
The Batticaloa Fort
The structure was originally made by the Portuguese and was inhabited by Dutch and British colonialists that followed. Overlooking the canal and lagoon, the fort houses several government offices and a temple inside its walls.
Batticaloa Lagoon
The Batticaloa Lagoon has a rich mangrove density and unique biodiversity in its habitat. The Kallady Bridge, also known as the Lady Manning Bridge, is built across the lagoon and is famous for the singing fish found beneath it.
