If you’re planning on a Thai beach getaway there’s no better destination than the island of Koh Phangan. Surrounded by a multitude of serene and relaxing beaches with clear blue waters and vibrant coral reefs, the island has something unique to offer at each of its beaches. Here are some of the most popular beach destinations you can explore around Koh Phangan for a unique island adventure.
Haad Rin
Commonly known as Full Moon Beach, this is a popular spot because it often hosts monthly full-moon beach parties. Located on the southeast coast of Koh Phangan and about a half hour’s drive from Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas, the beach has two sections: Haad Rin Nok where the parties are often held, and Haad Rin Nai which is much quieter and popular for those looking for some relaxation.
Mae Head
This is one of the more spacious beaches on the island with golden sand and shallow clear waters. What makes this beach a fascinating spot is the access it provides to the nearby uninhabited island of Koh Ma. All you need to do is walk along the connecting stretch of beach at low tide and you’ll reach the island where you can explore its vibrant coral reefs.
Haad Yao
Often called ‘Long Beach’ because it stretches up to 1 kilometre, Haad Yao is frequented by divers and snorkelling because of its nearby coral reefs. It also features several restaurants and bars which are perfect for relaxing and observing the spectacular views of the sunset.
Zen Beach
This is a lesser-known area of Koh Phangan but as its name suggests it is perfect for a casual and relaxing experience. You’ll often find groups of people singing and playing music, and others practising yoga at sunset, which adds to the serenity of the beach. If you wish to venture outside your Phangan beach resort for some quiet time, then Zen Beach is the place to be.
Secret Beach
Despite its name, the Secret Beach or Haad Son is frequently sought after by travellers because of its picturesque beauty. It is also a popular spot for swimming and you’ll find snorkelling gear available for rent at the site. However, you’ll need to be mindful of the surf and waves when swimming, and bring sun protection to combat the heat.
