Situated on the capital island of Male, Sultan Park is one of the most popular spots in the Maldives, known for its blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. Here’s everything you need to know about this vibrant park and what you can expect on a visit there.
History of the Park
The park was established at the site of the 16th-century royal palace after the structure was demolished. While the park’s garden occupies the space of the former royal garden, the site also features the National Museum which was rebuilt out of one of the remaining wings of the palace and inaugurated in 1952.
How to Get There
The park is located opposite the Islamic Centre and is easily accessible from anywhere in Male. It is approximately 20 minutes from the Velana International Airport and is a great place to visit before heading to your Maldives luxury resort.
Strolling Through the Park
Many visitors cannot resist enjoying a stroll through the garden which features well-maintained gardens and ponds surrounded by white lilies. The park’s lush greenery is also home to several vibrant birds that can be heard singing, adding to its tranquillity. Wandering through the park is a great way to end your stay in the Maldives after a relaxing vacation at resorts like OBLU SELCT Sangeli.
Visiting the National Museum
During your visit, you can also explore the National Museum which houses several historical artefacts that tell of the country’s history, from its pre-Islamic times to the present day.
