Underwater World Langkawi has been rated amongst the biggest fresh water and marine water aquariums in Southeast Asia. The venue was opened in August 1995 and it is a popular tourist attraction which you must visit if you travel to Malaysia. The major concepts of the premises would be to promote Education, Knowledge and Entertainment. The aquarium was constructed to increase awareness about endangered marine life and to show the significance of conserving the life forms of the ocean. The main idea is to forge a relationship between humans and nature so that people will protect the animals that live on the earth.
One of the major attractions at this complex is a 49 foot tunnel that is built within 500,000 litres of seawater. Through the glass tunnel visitors are able to observe fish, sharks and other marine animals such as the Giant Green Turtle. Other fascinating aspects of Underwater World are the Seashell Display, Koi Pond, Fresh Water Fish section, Coral Reef Section, Mini Reptilian & Invertebrate Section and the Poisonous & Venomous Creatures Section. Children would love to catch a glimpse of the feeding time at the aquarium. At 3.30 p.m. the Otter pond has scheduled their feeding time, guests are allowed to feed the otters and watch them do tricks while they have their meals. You will also enjoy the feeding time for Harbour Seals and Rock Hopper Penguins. These creatures are extremely active and it is fascinating to watch them eat and interact with the visitors. The times for Harbour Seals and Rock Hopper Penguins are 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Visitors who want to take some souvenirs back with them can go to the shopping centre which is outside the aquarium. You can grab a snack and even purchase some goodies to take in your luggage. A new addition to the Underwater World is the Tropical Rainforest which houses a variety of tropical animals. There is also an underwater passageway that has been included so that visitors can catch a glimpse of swimming penguins and a 3D Theatre located there.
