Are you planning an island getaway to the Seychelles? The archipelago of one hundred and fifteen islands off East Africa in the Indian Ocean is famous for its breathtaking natural beauty. If you are looking for activities to do in Seychelles, look no further than the pristine beaches and coral reefs. Fifty percent of the islands’ land mass has been declared national parks and reserves. The islands also boast two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: one is the legendary Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve on Praslin Island, which is home to five species of palm that are endemic to the Seychelles. One type of palm, known as Coca de mer or sea coconut, bears a curiously shaped nut that happens to be the largest in the world.
The capital of the Seychelles is Victoria, it is located in Mahe Island. The country’s international airport is also located on the island, as is AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort & Spa. Mahe is the largest island in the cluster and its key transport hub; it connects to the other islands by way of commuter planes and boats. Boat rides, though much slower, offer wonderful views of the Islands’ Indian Ocean setting. Boat charters are available for sightseeing purposes as well; a day of diving and snorkelling is a great way to experience the Seychelles’ incredible marine life.
The Morne Seychellois Park is the largest in Seychelles. It is located on Mahe Island and was declared a national park in 1979. It spans three thousand and forty five hectares and covers twenty percent of the island. The Morne Seychellois peak is also located within the park and is the tallest mountain in the country. Head to Beau Vallon, a popular tourist beach to behold mesmerizing sunsets over a smooth glass-like sea. If you are looking for a more secluded option visit Glacis, Anse Major or Baie Ternay.
