So you planned your Sydney holiday and dreamt of spending your days soaking up the sun on secluded sun drenched shores beside sparkling blue waters with not a care in the world and a quiet space on the sand to watch the world go slow by. But then you turn up at the beach, and discover that hundreds and hundreds of others had the same idea! Yes beaches in Sydney do get crowded and can kind of ruin the whole beach vibe. But fear not, you do get quieter beaches off the beaten track where you can enjoy more peace and less crowds.
1. Little Bay Beach
Here’s a more laidback stretch of beach that is sheltered from the big waves by rocks so you can enjoy some swimming with the family. The calm waters are also great for snorkelling, while the beach is ideal to just laze around and work on that perfect tan. It is accessible by walking down a wooden staircase though be mindful it is a bit steep.
2. Flat Rock Beach
If you want to combine a bit of bushwalking with your beachside getaway then Flat Rock Beach is an ideal option. This patch of shoreline can be found at Middle Harbour and to add to the adventure you can reach it either by trekking through the Garigal National Park or by way of a kayak from Middle Harbour. You can look to spend your day swimming, kayaking or just chilling out on the sands and enjoying the sounds of the sea.
3. Little Congwong Bay Beach
Picturesque Botany Bay National Park is where you will find this hidden gem. Little Congwong Bay Beach is particularly clean and is actually easily accessible by public transport. While it is popular, generally it will not be as crowded as the more mainline Sydney beaches. There are also several cafes and eateries nearby, which are perfect when hunger strikes after your day at the beach.
4. Milk Beach
Sydney Harbour National Park plays host to Milk Beach which is an isolated coastal shoreline where one can enjoy lazy days on the sand. The setting is ideal since in the backdrop you can view the iconic Harbour Bridge and Sydney city. Since it’s close to the city it’s relatively easy to find Sydney serviced apartments or hotels within easy reach. Oaks on Castlereagh is an ideal option in this regard. For those wanting more active pursuits at Milk Beach there is always the chance to indulge in a bit of snorkelling or you can even cast your line out and see what takes the bait!
