While Sri Lanka has beautiful beaches all around, the Calido Beach in Kalutara is one you must not miss and here’s why.
Why is Calido a favourite among the locals?
Calido beach is a gorgeous ribbon of the ocean created by a small bit of land dividing the Kalu River and the lagoon. It has beautiful, blue shallow waters and sand the colour of aged whiskey. There’s a gentle lull of waves crashing in the shore, leaving behind the whitest, softest seafoam.
How to get there?
The beach can be seen from the city and is only a short walk from Kalutara Bodhiya. It is also easily accessible via a taxi or even public transport as it’s within short reach from most Kalutara hotels. If you’re a fan of the idea of scenic views with easy access to the beach, there are many hotels such as The Mermaid Hotel & Club that are located within 10 mins from Calido.
What to do?
There are moderate waves and plush sands all throughout the coastline so it’s a popular spot among locals for an evening game of beach volleyball. If you’re not much into sports, you can also take a relaxing stroll, with balmy waves kissing your feet. You can also see many street foods stands and cool restaurants where you can enjoy a delicious meal!
What to look out for?
The unique location of this beautiful beach allows for breathtaking sunsets. You can see a gorgeous light show as the sun sets down the horizon and if you just look behind you, you can see the colours juxtaposed beautifully with the city. The sunsets are what causes photographers from all over the world to flock to Calido!
