Location
Located southeast of Bali, Nusa Penida is a small island 25 km from Bali with two neighbouring islands close to each other called Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan, collectively these islands are sometimes called the Nusa Islands. Nusa Penida continues to be the most famous of the three owing to its spectacular scenery.
How to get there
There is no airport in Nusa Penida so your best bet is to get a speed boat from Bali or take a ferry. A speedboat journey will take around 45 minutes to get there. There are numerous speedboat companies offering rides from Sanur Beach in Bali. If you are staying in Seminyak or Ubud you can drive to Sanur and catch a speedboat from there. There is a tourist fee for all visitors to Nusa Penida, which includes visitation access to all three islands. Adults have to pay 25k rupiah, while for children it is 15k rupiah
Accommodation
When it comes to accommodation in Nusa Penida you will find plenty of them; from star-class hotels to boutique hotels. You can find hotels near Kuta Square, such as the likes of Harris Hotel and Residence Riverview Kuta Bali, to base your stay on and explore the island.
How to get about
Nusa Penida is a small island with rough roads and little to no public transport. Your best bet is to hire a car with a driver or rent a scooter or a motorbike. Driving on a scooter won’t be easy as the gravel roads are not the easiest to traverse. Make sure to wear a helmet if venturing that route and ensure you have good travel insurance covering accidents. You won’t find apps like Grab operating here, however, you can request your place of stay to arrange taxis for you when necessary.
Places to visit
- Kelingking Cliff is one of the most iconic spots in Bali. The T Rex-shaped cliff surrounded by turquoise blue waters is a sight to behold. After you had your fill of the cliff there is a a traversable path that leads you to the gorgeous beach below. The hike can be strenuous although definitely worth your time and effort. Paluang cliff is another viewpoint although less famous than Kelingking but just five minutes away from the latter. If you want to bypass crowds this is just the place to visit. Plus, you can get some fantastic views of Keling Cliff from Paulang minus all the crowds. Crystal Bay located on the west side of Penida is a great beach to relax and take in the stunning beachside environment, It’s great for sunning and relaxing. You can find plenty of food and drink around the beach and one of the best places to catch a sunset in Penida.
