Planning Your Trip
The charming coastal town of Passikudah is around 35 km from the city of Batticaloa and is home to a variety of resorts and 3 star hotels. Sri Lanka scuba diving adventures in the east coast are ideal for both beginners and advanced divers with average depths ranging from 10 to 15 metres. The diving season here is generally from May to October.
Diving & Certification
If you don’t have the needed certification to go diving have no fear since hotels such as Amethyst Passikudah offer the needed training including PADI International and Advanced Open Water certifications. Courses for children are available too along with boat and equipment hire too.
Vibrant Marine Life
Diving in Passikudah provides much to see with underwater worlds home to colourful coral gardens and diverse marine life including stingrays, angelfish, clownfish, butterflyfish, sweetlips and damselfish. When it comes to diving hotspots, the Passikudah, Kayankerni and Mushroom reefs are worth checking out.
Underwater Wrecks
In Passikudah, intrepid divers also have the chance to explore age-old wrecks some of which date back to the time of World War Two. Amongst the key wrecks are the British Sergeant tanker and HMS Hermes aircraft carrier as well as the three sites that make up the Boiler Wrecks.
