A ninety minute plane ride from Miami will transport you to paradise. Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean is a lesser known tropical paradise. Sun bleached white sand and crystal clear waters make up secluded, untouched bays. The destination is so breathtaking it was chosen as the first location, of seven worldwide COMO Shambhala properties that are focused on delivering a meaningful spa experience.
Turks and Caicos has much to offer the discerning traveller. You will find the peak tourist season in full swing between January and April, the Grand Turk Game Fishing Tournament takes place in July, November marks the Turks & Caicos Conch Festival, while the wellness activities happen all year round. Snorkeling and scuba diving are also two of the most popular leisure activities, given the beachside setting. Providenciales or ‘Provo’ for short is often considered to be among the top ten best dive sites in the world. The water is clear and calm year round, it also has a barrier reef running the entire length of the island’s north coast. The marine life is as free as it is colourful because local government has banned fishing. The scenic Grace Bay is a common dive site along with Point Pine Cay and West Caicos French Cay where you can expect to spot reef sharks, sea turtles, stingrays and even dolphins.
If deep sea diving is too intensive, try a leisurely afternoon of snorkeling. The same reasons that make for great diving experiences in the Caicos Islands, also make it an ideal destination for snorkeling. Smith’s Reef and Bight Reef are two of Grace Bay’s best snorkeling spots. Snorkeling excursions can be arranged to sites off Grace Bay or closer to the Caicos Cays as well as further out in West Caicos and French Cay, where the marine life is richer still.
