Colombo may be known for its shopping, sightseeing and nightlife, but it also has some idyllic stretches of shore where you can enjoy both relaxation and recreation!
Galle Face Beach
Featuring a relatively small beach, this area is more famous because of the huge public park right beside it known as Galle Face Green. You can have a short walk on the sand and wet your feet in the oncoming waves, before trying some of the yummy street food on offer along the beachside promenade.
Mount Lavinia Beach
This extremely popular beach can be found in the suburb of Mount Lavinia. Hotels across from the beach including the likes of Berjaya Hotel Colombo offer hassle-free access to the shore ideal for a leisurely stroll, fitness run, a game of tap rugby or walking dogs! An added plus are the many dining options here too.
Dehiwela Beach
The suburb of Dehiwela has a lovely beach which actually connects up to Mount Lavinia. There are several restaurants where you can have a meal or drinks on the shore as well. A fisher community lives on one stretch of the beach and depending on when you visit you may see boats heading out to sea.
Kinross Beach
Located in the Wellawatte area, this is another small stretch of coastline where you can enjoy some fun and frolic by the shore. Families and couples gravitate to this beach especially on weekends and holidays so it can get a bit crowded, but it still is a good place to chill out by the sea.
